Innovative transaxle delivers significant improvements in fuel economy and emissions, together with better productivity and control for agricultural and off-highway applications

A highly innovative toroidal infinitely variable transmission (IVT) that claims to be the most efficient of its type has been unveiled at Agritechnica by Carraro DriveTech. The Italian company, a licensee of Torotrak and a leader in the development and production of agricultural and materials handling transmissions, claims the VaryT concept will provide important reductions in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions whilst also increasing productivity and driver comfort.

Automotive technology company Zircotec has been recognised for its precision engineering expertise at the Oxford Innovation Martin & Audrey Wood Awards

Harwell-based automotive technology company Zircotec has been named as a runner-up at the prestigious Martin & Audrey Wood Awards, hosted by Oxford Innovation and Science Oxford. The company was recognised for its innovation and achievement in the ‘Precision Engineering and Instrumentation’ category during a ceremony held at the Saïd Business School in Oxford on 29th October, having demonstrated a strong commitment to the development of ceramic-based thermal coatings for use in a wide range of industries.

In 1967, the founder Mr. Colin Martin, originally in the commercial business, soon realised there was a gap in the market for a fuel injection specialist.  Twelve months later Colchester Fuel Injection Limited was formed.  This year they celebrate 40 years of business with their employees, customers and suppliers.

A novel infra red tyre temperature and pressure monitoring system (IRTPTMS) from BERU f1systems has been selected as the 2009 Testing Technology of the Year 2009 at the Professional Motorsport World exhibition. A highly regarded judging panel, including an ex-F1 driver and engineers, as well as senior figures from across motorsport, selected the DigiTyre IRTPTMS from Norfolk-based BERU f1systems to receive the award at the Cologne show.

Specialist driveline engineering company Quaife has invested more than £3.5 million (€4 million) in a state-of-the-art, flexible manufacturing facility designed to provide high performance driveline systems for niche-vehicle programmes. Quaife’s technologies include gearboxes, steering systems and the highly regarded Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing limited slip differential. The company says that its substantial commitment to quality will soon be recognised with the award of TS16949, the international quality standard that has become the benchmark for vehicle manufacturers worldwide. The company already holds ISO9001 and supplies a number of vehicle manufacturers including Ford for the highly-acclaimed RS Focus.
