Technology Strategy Board research project targets 20% cut in CO2 emissions using flywheel-CVT system

September 15 2010... A consortium of UK automotive companies will showcase a prototype flywheel hybrid system for premium vehicles (FHSPV) at the Low Carbon Vehicle event at Millbrook on 15 September. The system adds up to 82PS (60kW) of recovered energy and is predicted to demonstrate fuel economy gains of 20% relative to the current production model. Testing work is already underway.

Federal-Mogul supports development of surface coating for brake discs that improves performance and cost for cars, commercial vehicles, trains, aircraft and industrial equipment

September 14, 2010  - Federal-Mogul Corporation (NASDAQ: FDML) is providing specialist expertise for a UK Government-backed research programme that aims to modify the surface of brake discs, optimising the material’s friction performance. The new technology could be used to reduce the lifetime cost of very high performance ceramic braking systems and could allow engineers to tailor the friction properties of different materials more closely to the application.

New stainless steel coolant pipes are now available for manual MGF and TF cars from all XPart AutoService centres and parts wholesalers. The pipes are being manufactured on original MG Rover tooling and have been rigorously tested to meet with XPart’s quality requirements. They offer a robust alternative to the cars’ standard-fit steel pipes, which are susceptible to corrosion. The new pipes will cost £65 + VAT and can be ordered under part number PEP102470SS.

MOSCOW — Delphi is expanding its parts operation, training and service centre network in Russia, Central and Eastern Europe, as demand for high quality replacement parts and servicing for petrol and diesel vehicles in these regions continues to grow. The company launched its comprehensive product portfolio, including air conditioning, brakes, shock absorbers, steering and suspension, vehicle electronics components, as well as a full range of diagnostic tools and specialised diesel test equipment. It will also soon be launching its innovative new fuel analyser in these regions.
