Innovations include gasoline direct injection with compression ignition and light-weight power electronics for hybrids

 

AACHEN, Germany – Delphi Automotive (NYSE: DLPH) engineers will outline innovative solutions to the emissions challenges facing both gasoline and diesel vehicles in technical papers presented at the 21st Aachen Colloquium (October 8-10). Delphi’s papers describe the company’s near production-ready Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) dosing system that provides a uniquely cost-effective approach to urea injection, and a Gasoline Direct Injection Compression Ignition (GDCI) engine that is currently in advanced development. The papers will be complemented by extensive hardware displays at the Delphi booth (Upper floor, stand 61) that include a range of new, light-weight power electronics products for hybrid and electric vehicles.

UK insurance research centre devises new standards for test procedures and equipment as car manufacturers introduce Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) systems

 

The research effort that went into convincing UK insurers to reduce insurance premiums for motorists buying cars fitted with leading edge collision avoidance technology, has turned Thatcham into a world leader in the development of test systems and qualifying procedures for Autonomous Emergency Braking - or AEB.

UK insurance industry adopts findings and adjusts group ratings to reflect the significant potential to prevent collisions and reduce accident repair costs

 

Following pioneering accident risk assessment work by Thatcham, the UK motor insurance repair research centre, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) is introducing important changes to the Group Rating system. As a result, motorists who buy cars fitted as standard with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) technologies could immediately benefit from a one to five group drop in insurance rating and potentially a lower premium.

New material can withstand higher temperatures without scuffing, allowing engines to produce more power while enhancing durability

 

Hannover, Germany, Sep 25, 2012 ... Federal-Mogul Corporation (NASDAQ:FDML) has developed a new self-lubricating valve guide material that addresses the challenges of excessive and accelerated wear increasingly encountered on high specific power engines. The material, called PMF-10E, allows valvetrains to operate at higher temperatures - between 100°C (212°F) and 200°C (392°F) hotter than those using conventional lubrication - without increasing wear between the valve stem and guide.
