Flexible multiport converter may replace multiple separate DC-DC converters on future hybrid & electric vehicles, saving cost, weight and space and increasing EV range by up to 20%


The success of a research project to develop a multi-voltage DC-DC converter has led to funding from the UK government's Technology Strategy Board (TSB) to develop the technology for manufacture. The converter, which provides a variety of voltages across the vehicle, uses silicon carbide to increase efficiency while significantly reducing the weight and packaging volume required compared to alternative solutions. Silicon carbide technology also has the potential for high temperature operation and reduced system cost.

Insurance industry research centre joins elite group of official European vehicle safety testing laboratories


22nd NOVEMBER 2012 | Thatcham Research, the UK insurance industry's automotive research centre, has celebrated a significant milestone in its 43-year history with the unveiling of their newly accredited Euro NCAP crash testing laboratory. Following significant investment in equipment and staff, Thatcham has become only the eighth European laboratory to be recognised for having the facilities, expertise and rigour required to carry out the crash testing programmes that lead to vehicle manufacturers being awarded the much valued safety star ratings.

BHA to utilise nanotechnology to reduce frictional losses
and enhance performance


Yorkshire, England - Oils containing nanotechnology will be used for the first time in the IndyCar series as Millers Oils begins work with Bryan Herta Autosport. The deal includes all BHA entries including the Barracuda Racing IndyCar team, F1600 and Indy Lights. The goal of the partnership is to increase performance and efficiency by reducing frictional losses. The oils will be a further development of the company's Nanodrive products, which have been proven in motorsport and automotive applications.
